Things to check after electric motor installation

A thorough understanding of installation methods is essential for the efficient running and maintenance of electric motors. With today’s sophisticated electric motor coolers, you need to go through every aspect of application, selection, and maintenance in addition to assembly, hardware, and material and component relationships. Installing these motors is therefore more crucial than it has ever been. Achieving optimal reliability, effective performance, and high-quality operation requires proper motor installation. Whether you operate as an engineer, installer, or maintainer, you must closely coordinate, plan, and collaborate with people from different disciplines on this activity.

Even after the installation of an electric motor, it is essential to check whether everything is fine. There are certain things to check after the installation and we will discuss them in brief in this article

Receiving and handling an electric motor

Before removing a motor from the shipper’s truck, make sure you give it a careful inspection for dents or other damage. Examine all of the material that came with the machine as well. Tags related to operation, lubrication, storage, and assembly should not be removed. This documentation should be kept in your file, along with any machine-specific specifications and drawings, for use as a guide throughout installation startup, and operation. To make sure the shaft turns easily on smaller units, you should crank it by hand. When antifriction bearings are included, these motors are often pre-lubricated and operationally ready.

Large motors and engine-generator sets with sleeve bearings are frequently shipped with anti-rust fluid inside of them instead of lubricating oil. These need to be examined via the bearing drain holes and sight glass. Examine the area for any moisture buildup and eliminate any oxidation remnants. Next, add a premium industrial lubricant to the bearing reservoirs until they are full. Replace the oil or remove any debris, metal filings, or other contaminants that may have gotten into it.

Things to check after electric motor installation

  • Electric connections

Check to make sure all electrical connections are tightened correctly and securely. Inadequate connections may result in motor failure, voltage dips, and overheating. Make sure there are no exposed wires and that the wiring is the proper size based on the motor’s specs.

  • Alignment

Verify that the motor and the driven apparatus are aligned. Excessive vibration, early bearing wear, and shaft damage can all result from misalignment. To guarantee correct alignment, use alignment instruments like laser alignment systems or dial indicators.

  • Bearing lubrication

Verify that the bearings on the motor are properly oiled in accordance with the instructions from the electric motors manufacturers in India. Increased friction, overheating, and early bearing failure can result from improper lubrication. Use the proper lubricant and adhere to the suggested lubrication schedule.

  • Motor Rotation

Check to make sure the motor is rotating in the direction that the manufacturer specifies. Both the motor and the driven equipment may sustain harm if the motor is operated in the incorrect direction. You can change the direction of rotation by switching any two of the three power leads as needed.

  • Protection from overload

Make sure that the motor has the proper overload protection, such as thermal overload relays or fuses. To stop excessive current draw from damaging the motor, overload protection is essential. To make sure the overload protection system is operating properly, test it.

  • Run Test

Do a test to confirm that the motor operates when there is a load. During the test, keep an eye out for any strange noises, vibrations, or overheating from the motor. Verify that the motor performs effectively and smoothly within the allotted working parameters.
